TAKE ACTION – Tell City Council To Vote “No” On de Blasio’s $11 Billion Jail Plan!
On Thursday 10/17, New York City Council is holding the final vote on Mayor de Blasio’s $11 billion plan to build four new jails throughout the city. Within Our Lifetime stands with the No New Jails NYC coalition and Black and Brown and immigrant communities across New York City in opposing de Blasio’s plan and calling for the immediate closure of Rikers Island. We take this stand because we know that the fight to end mass incarceration and abolish prisons in the US is directly tied to the Palestinian struggle for liberation. In this spirit, we call on our supporters in NYC to join us in taking action before the final City Council vote on Thursday:
Contact your City Council member and tell them to vote “No” on de Blasio’s $11 billion jail expansion plan. You can find your councilmember’s contact information hereand talking points from DRUM – Desis Rising Up and Movinghere.
If you live in Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst or Bath Beach you can reach Council Member Justin Brannan at 718-748-5200.
Mobilizeon Thursday, 10/17 alongside No New Jails NYC and DRUM – Desis Rising Up and Moving, who will be holding a protest outside of City Hall at 10:00 am as the final vote on de Blasio’s jail plan takes place inside.
